He had five children with his first wife Sally, but only four grew up to adulthood. He had 11 children with his second wife, Cynthia, all grew up to adulthood.
He was taxed in Mercer County, KY., 1815, 1818-1820, 1823-1825, no land. He was on the 1820 Mercer Co. Census with wife and two females under age 10. He was in Barren County, Kentucky for the 1830, 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 census'. He is listed as the following on 1830 Barren Co., KY census: males, 1, 5-10; 2, 20-30, 1, 30-40; females, 1 under 5; 1, 5-10; 1, 10-15 and 1 20-30; He is listed on the 1836 Barren County Tax list; is listed on the Hart County Tax list in 1840-1841, and 1844; Hart County Tax list, 1847, no land and 2 kids between 5 and 16; 1848 with no land and 3 kids between 5 and 16; 1850-1851, no land with 4 kids between 5 and 16; and 1852-1853, no land with 6 kids between 5 & 16; 1856-1858, no land, 7 kids between 6 &18; 1859, no land, looks like 1/+ on the kids; 1860-1862, no land, 7 kids between 6 &18; 1862, no land, 8 kids between 6 &18;
NOTE: Have run across a William L Crain who married a Mary Elizabeth Perry in Hardin County, March 18, 1845, surety, David Perry, her father and E.B. Crain, performed marriage.
This William could be a son of Nathaniel and Sally Lynch Crain.

"On Sep 1, 1846 Albert Gallatin Goodin married Mary Elizabeth Perry Crane, young and childless widow of William S. Crane."
[1978] There are two headstones for Nathaniel, one older one with the dates of Sept. 29, 1796 - March 25, 1889 and the "newer" one with the dates of Sept. 29, 1892 - March 28, 1889.
[1979] War of 1812, Declaration of Soldier for Pension: Hart County KY, April 22, 1871: Nathaniel Crane aged 78 year of Barren Co., declares he was married; that his wife's name was Sally Linch to whom he was married in Washington County, in the Spring of the year 1818.... Nathaniel Crane volunteered in Captain Robert Mackafee's at Harrodsburg, May 1, 1813 and was discharged at Harrodsburg on Oct. 1813; that he was corporal in the mounted infantry under the command of Col R?M. Johnson, and that he was in the battle of the River Thomas or Moravias? Thomas and participated in the said battle and was slightly wounded in the said Butte and he state that his discharge was lost.

David Henry was surety on her and Nathaniel's married record, he is also listed: "David Henry as guardian to bride gave consent personally." Unknown relations although have found a 1799 Marriage record for him to a Margaret Potts, so perhaps the connection is with the Potts? Unknown to me, July 2001. "bond?", dated March 19, 1818, return was on March 22, 1818.
He states more than once that they were married in Washington County, KY.
