This was sent to, it is unknown to me where it came from:
He stated in the 1850 Census of Kentucky, Monroe County, that his age was 84 and was born in Virginia. Anna, his daughter stated that he came to Tennessee from Pennsylvania at an early date and was of English descent. John's father has not been ascertained. There is a strong probability that Stephen Pitcock (died ca. 1769) of Virginia may have been his father. Thomas could have taken John into his home, just as Philip and Mary (Perkins) Babb took in Stephen, Jr. on Stephen, Sr.'s death.
Stephen, John and Mary's first child, was born in Virginia about 1791. About the year, 1793, John, with his family, moved from Virginia to Washington County, Tennessee with his father or uncle Thomas Pitcock. The Cherokee Indian land cessions of Holston River in 1791, opened that part of Tennessee territory for settlement where John would move into. Now John would be the second Pitcock family to use the Great Wagon Road, the first was Stephen of North Carolina (see Pitcocks of the Carolinas). His reason for removing to Tennessee could have been social and political or because he had heard about the epidemic of yellow fever which took over 4,000 lives in Philadelphia, Pa.
John is first found on a tax list of 1794, Washington County, Tennessee. He owned no land at the time. He was taxed in 1797 for one white pole and 50 acres of land, again in 1798, one white pole and 100 acres of land, and 1801, one white pole and 93 acres of land. Only white free males between ages of 21 an 50 years were taxed as taxable pole. John was taxed for his 200 acres of land in 1830, but paid no pole tax (over 50). He sold to a Thomas Hunt a parcel of land (29 acres) on February 7, 1803 in Washington County.

John and his family, after the death of Thomas (1833-34), removed to Monroe County, Kentucky. He is listed in the 1830 Washington Co., TN., and the 1840 and 1850 censuses for Monroe County, Kentucky.
Note from Chrystal Bailey Talbott: There is a John Pitcock listed on the 1830 Monroe County, Kentucky Census, unknown to me who or which John Pitcock this is. It is possible that he could have "arrived" in Monroe County, just in time for the census. Or it is possible that his sons Stephen, John, Aaron and Labron arrived first in Monroe County, they are all listed in the 1830 Monroe County census.

On the 1860 Williamson Co., Ill., census he is listed as being born in Kentucky and on the 1870 Williamson Co., census he is listed age being born in Ill.
It is possible that he is the John Pidcock, age 21 listed in his uncle Fredricks household on the 1880 Denton County, Texas Census. (unknown to me if this is correct June 14, 2003)
